LEON Press Statement on the Delay of Montserrado Bi Election

LEON notes that the National Election Commission (NEC) has again had to delay the conduct of the Montserrado Senate and District 15 by-elections, originally scheduled for July 2, then moved to July 8 and lately to before July 20. The NEC has given no new election date in announcing this fourth delay.

Although the constitutional timeframe of 90 days from when the NEC was informed of the vacancy1 has already been infringed in the case of the senatorial seat, LEON thinks it is important to conduct the elections credibly for the good of democracy in the country.
