LEON Press Statement Tally of Montserrado District 15 Bi-Election

The Liberia Elections Observation Network calls for citizens to wait patiently for the results of the Montserrado and District #15 by-elections to be announced by the NEC and to refrain from posting negative comments on social media. However, with only a third of results entered so far, LEON encourages the NEC to speed up the tally process and to work at night to enter results to calm suspicions.

 Whilst the candidates and their parties have every right to collect the results and check them, counting this way is not necessarily systematic and maybe not representative of the entire vote. We ask the leaders of all the parties contesting these elections to call on their supporters to remain calm and to wait for the official results and for complaints to be resolved. The low turnout observed makes a close contest more likely.
