First E-Day Statement Special Senatorial & Referendum Election

LEON is concerned about the increasing tension and high number of incidents in these elections compared to 2017. LEON expresses concern over the seizer of ballot boxes from four polling places in Gbarpulo County on suspicion of people from  Sierra Leone coming to vote illegally and asks the NEC to provide a current update on the status of these ballot boxes.  

Distinguished Ladies and gentlemen of the press, as a local election’s observation body LEON  has been observing and monitoring the elections campaign around the country since July.  Election day observers are stationed in 700 polling places that have been randomly selected according to population distribution and in remote as well as urban and rural areas. This report is based on the checklists received so far by 380 observers who monitored opening and morning voting. LEON is a neutral election observation organization and all observed sign a pledge that they will report accurately and impartially.
