LEON Opening of Polls Situational Statement Nov 2021

The Liberia Election Observation Network (LEON),[1] is pleased to submit to the Liberian people and our international partners, this mid-day briefing of its findings on activities constituting the opening of polls in four districts holding representative by-elections in Bomi, Bong, Grand Gedeh and Nimba counties. As of 6:00AM this morning, LEON deployed 152 observers that includes 128 short-term observers (STOs), 20 long-term observers (LTOs), and 4 Regional Coordinators (RCs) to observe the ongoing by-elections. In addition, the LEON Steering Committee Members were deployed to each of the districts conducting by-elections. All infield staff are fully accredited by the National Elections Commission (NEC) and have been assigned to 144 polling places representing 100% presence in all voting precincts and 51% coverage of all polling places in the four districts. This statement provides a near real-time assessment of NEC on the opening of polls in the four districts.
